Sooke RCMP warn residents about suspected door-to-door asphalt scams involving aggressive sales tactics by unidentified men. Two incidents were reported January 7–8, 2026. Residents should report suspicious activity to police.

Emergency repairs are underway for a sinkhole on Goodmere Road, closing the road at Brownsey Boulevard. Detours are in place via Brownsey Boulevard and Murray Road. Repair timelines are under assessment; updates will follow.

Polar Bear Swim at Whiffin Spit

Start the new year with a splash!

On January 1, 2026, join the Otter Point Volunteer Fire Department and community members at Whiffin Spit Park for the annual Polar Bear Swim. Brave the icy waters, cheer on friends and family, and kick off 2026 with an unforgettable West Coast tradition.

After your dip, warm up on shore with a cup of hot chocolate and enjoy the festive atmosphere with fellow swimmers and spectators. This is a family-friendly event, and spectators are very welcome, even if you’re staying dry on the beach.

On-site registration begins at 11:30 a.m. The swim starts with a cannon blast at 12:00 p.m.
